"28 Days Later" is a British post-apocalyptic horror film directed by Danny Boyle and released in 2002. The film begins with a group of animal rights activists breaking into a laboratory where chimpanzees are being used for scientific experiments. Unbeknownst to the activists, the chimpanzees are infected with a highly contagious virus known as "Rage," which causes uncontrollable aggression and turns those infected into violent, bloodthirsty creatures.
One of the activists, a young man named Jim (played by Cillian Murphy), wakes up from a coma 28 days after the outbreak to find London deserted. They eventually find refuge in a fortified apartment building where they meet another group of survivors led by a man named Major Henry West (played by Christopher Eccleston). Initially, the new group seems hospitable, but Jim and his companions soon discover that Major West has sinister intentions, including forcing himself on female survivors and using them for procreation to rebuild society.
Jim and Selena manage to escape from Major West's compound with Hannah, but not before a violent confrontation. They decide to seek out a rumored safe haven called "Budapest" that they heard about on a radio broadcast. Along the way, they encounter more infected and must navigate the dangers of the post-apocalyptic world.
The film explores themes of survival, morality, and the lengths people will go to in order to protect themselves and their loved ones in the face of catastrophe. It is noted for its intense atmosphere, fast-paced action, and gritty portrayal of a society on the brink of collapse.
